Ms. Holtzer graduated from the State University of New York at Binghamton in 2002 and obtained her J.D. from Hofstra University School of Law in 2005. She is admitted to practice law before the New York State Courts, the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. Since graduating law school, Ms. Holtzer has focused her practice on employment law and civil rights litigation. She began her legal career representing individuals in employment discrimination litigation and other employment-related disputes. Notably, she argued and won the case Buffong v. Castle on the Hudson, Misc.3d 1193(A); 824 N.Y.S.2d 752, (Sup. Ct. West. 2006), in which the Supreme Court, Westchester County, became the first New York State court to hold that New York’s anti-discrimination laws prohibit discrimination against transgendered individuals. Prior to joining Sokoloff Stern LLP, Ms. Holtzer was associated with MSSSV LLP, where she represented corporations, municipalities and school districts in employment and civil rights litigation. At MSSSV, Ms. Holtzer argued and won several cases before New York State and federal courts, including, among others, Jacobs v. Mostow et al., 271 Fed. Appx. 85, 2008 WL 834128 (2d Cir. March 27, 2008), in which the Second Circuit affirmed the lower court’s dismissal of a school teacher’s race discrimination claims against his former school district employer, and held that the plaintiff’s due process rights were not violated during a hearing held pursuant to New York Education Law §3020-a.
